SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The Golden Gate Bridge District has big plans for money it may receive as part of a $7 toll, including parking and a restoration of some transit service.
If the district decides to charge an extra $1 toll during peak hours, that could free up $158 million in federal money to the area and the district would be in line to receive about $12 million of it.
Most of it would go to re-striping the Larkspur Ferry Terminal parking lot, and eventually for the design of a parking garage at Larkspur, which has far too few places. Money obtained from the peak time toll itself could be used to bring back some bus and ferry service, according to District Spokeswoman Mary Currie.
“As to an actual allocation plan at this time, that has not been determined,” said Currie. “We know where we’ve got some gaps right now that we’d like to improve and we’ve heard from customers where there’s gaps that they’d like to see us improve so that would be a planning process that would come once we know we’re going to have this toll.”
The Bridge Board voted on Friday to send their own $1 toll increase and the peak time toll of another dollar to a public hearing.
