UC Berkeley: Invisibility Cloak Could Become Reality

BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS)  -- UC Berkeley scientists have developed 3D technology that in theory could render objects invisible.

The scientists at the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab are working with new material that can bend visible light the wrong way in three dimensions, according to Professor Xiang Zhan, director of the lab's Nano-science and Engineering Center.

The material could help create a cloak that could guide light around an object so that neither a reflection nor a shadow would be created, Zhan said.

Until now, scientists had only been able to show light-bending abilities in two dimensions.

Zhan's work is featured in the journals Nature and Science.
