Berkeley Police On Lookout For Underage Drinkers

BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS)  -- While lowering the legal drinking age is being considered, 21 is still the law. But that isn't always enough to deter college freshmen thirsting for their first taste of freedom.

Undercover officers in Berkeley will be out in force this weekend, stationed at bars near campus, trying to keep underage drinking to a minimum.

James Lim, manager of the Hotel Durant, which houses the popular Henry's Bar, said he's happy to have them. "I think it's great, especially with our proximity to the campus. My staff and I have been very, very careful that we don't allow kids under 21 here."

A state grant is providing the funding for the enforcement.
