Vote Expected Tuesday on Controversial Power Plant

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- The Board of Supervisors is scheduled Tuesday to revisit the issue of building new power plants near Potrero Hill and at the airport.

The board delayed consideration of the controversial issue for one week at the request of Mayor Newsom. Newsom wanted more time to find a cleaner alternative to replacing an aging power plant that is slated for closure.

Currently, the board must decide whether to build smaller, less polluting peaker plants to replace the aging generator on Potrero Hill. It is not clear at this point if Newsom has come up with a better alternative.
