SANTA ROSA, Calif. (KCBS) -- Firefighters in the North Bay were kept busy Thursday, as a number of wild-land fires scorched hillsides. The temperature in Santa Rosa topped 102 degrees, as hundreds of firefighters battled blazes in from the air and on the ground.
No evacuations were necessary at one 50-acre wildfire in Santa Rosa that burned within sight of homes on St. Helena Road.
"We had a tree go into a power line. At that time we had reports of sustained winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 45 miles per hour," said Dan Sendek who speaks for Cal Fire.
The hot dry conditions made for some tough going for firefighters, who were battling other fires in the area as well.
"We had a report of a fire in Rutherford at 11:30 a.m., as well as one at Bodega Bay at noon. We had a fire reported at the Geysers outside of Geyserville.
A couple of firefighters were taken to the hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.
