Women for President 3/12/08

Congratulations, most people got this one right!  The correct answer is B - Shirley Chisholm.  She won 152 delegate votes at the 1972 Democratic Convention.  Margaret Chase Smith was the first woman ever placed in nomination by one of the major parties; she got 27 votes at the 1964 GOP Convention.  Ellen McCormack was a right-to-life housewife who ran for the Democratic nomination in 1976, and got 22 votes at the convention.  Elizabeth Dole dropped out of the Republican race without winning any delegates in 2000.

Even if she doesn't win the Democratic nomination, Hillary Clinton will set a record for the most major party delegates ever won by a female presidential candidate. Whose record will she break?

B. Shirley Chisholm, 1972

C. Ellen McCormack, 1976
