Workers Strike Four Bay Area Hospitals

DALY CITY, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Healthcare workers walked off the job Thursday at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, O’Connor Hospital in San Jose, Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, and Seton Coastside in Moss Beach.

The one-day strike protested the slow pass of negotiations with the Daughters of Charity Health System, according to officials with SEIU United Healthcare Workers West. A walkout also took place at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood.

Bargaining talks began in March.

Healthcare workers at the five hospitals voted overwhelmingly in June to authorize an unfair labor practices strike, after contract negotiations slowed. Hundreds of caregivers also picketed outside Daughters of Charity hospitals on July 2.
