Finger Pointing in the House Page Scandal

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Some Republicans are trying to shift the focus of the Mark Foley House page scandal to the Democrats by suggesting that San Francisco Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi had something to do with releasing Foley's racy emails to the media. Pelosi told KCBS the rumor is not only pathetic, but simply not true.

"They're so unprofessional. They will not assume responsibility," Pelosi said.

North Carolina Congressman Patrick McHenry is one of the Republicans trying to turn the tables on Democrats. He appeared on CNN’s “Late Edition” to say that all the facts point to the question of whether Pelosi or other Democrats had any involvement on the strategic level.

"The question remains, were they involved. And if they were not involved they need to say so clearly," said McHenry.

When asked about the finger pointing, Pelosi said “they never shared that information with the Democrats.” She also had a question of her own. "We want to know why the Republicans chose to protect Mark Foley's political career rather than protect the children who were in our charge."

While Pelosi hopes the scandal will win more Democrat votes, Republicans continue to rally behind embattled Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert. If the Democrats win back the House next month, Pelosi would be made Speaker.
