Into the Wild
|
(R)
It's a rare film that takes us on a wild journey, introducing us to a world and ideas foreign but compelling, giving us a different perspective and an unusual dream. This poignant adventure written and directed by Sean Penn does all that. Based on the short life of Christopher McCandless and the best-selling book by Jon Krakauer, we meet a young man on a spiritual quest to live without worldly possessions or society. Played with endearing passion and purpose by Emiloe Hirsch, Chris ventures into the wilderness of Alaska. On the way there he meets up with characters (Hal Holbrook, Vatherine Keener among the fine group of actors) but this is his lone journey, and it is one investing in with him. Though it's far from our own reality, this film is worth the big screen time and money. It's a bit long, but smart, worthwhile and unforgettable.
