SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Residents of East San Jose’s Poco Way neighborhood came together with law enforcement at a community meeting last night, after a double homicide in the area has neighbors on edge.
Gang violence plagued the area in the 1980s, but it has been relatively safe for the past few years. San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed blames outsiders for the recent killings.
”The Poco Way was a very difficult, and not good neighborhood in San Jose, that’s for sure, but now it’s cleaned up, the city put a lot of money into it,” said Reed. “We got a great non-profit housing developer to come in there and manage the properties. As a neighborhood it’s vastly improved. That doesn’t stop people from coming in there and causing trouble, and that’s what happened recently. It could happen in any neighborhood.”
Reed told neighbors that city officials will not turn their back on any part of the city.
