NAPA, Calif. (KCBS) -- Increasingly, Napa Valley wineries are using solar power to run their winemaking facilities.
”We’ve seen in nearly three years time, the winery industry go from nothing, really, to about seven percent of wineries in Napa Valley are now solar powered,” said Rob Erlichman, the president of San Francisco’s Sunlight Electric. “I predict that they’ll be at nearly three times that in three years time, or about 20 percent.”
Haven’s Wine Cellars is one of the many Napa Wineries harnessing the sun’s power.
”We’ve been sitting here looking at this hot sun baking us for several years and thinking that instead of just protecting ourselves from this, we should be using it,” said founder Michael Havens.
Incentives are helping winery owners to pay back the conversion costs more quickly than they imagined possible.
