Trailheads both located off Bolinas-Fairfax Road in Marin
Carson Falls: Take U.S. 101 in Marin to Sir Francis Drake Boulevard exit. Take that exist and go west six miles to Fairfax. Just past a gas station, look for a small Fairfax sign (in center of road in divider) and turn left (the road is unsigned), then right immediately on Broadway (a frontage road) and go one block to Bolinas Road. Turn left and go 3.8 miles to parking area on road's shoulder on left. Pine Mountain Road Trailhead (look for large information billboard next to trail) for Carson Falls is on north side of road.
Cataract Falls Trailhead: Proceed as above to Bolinas Road. Turn left on Bolinas Road and go 8 miles (across Alpine Dam) and park at a pullout. Trailhead located on left (on south side of road) and starts along Alpine Lake.
Waterfalls, easy or hard

Car survival kit

Continue straight to La Honda and continue a half mile to La Honda/Pescadero Road. Turn left and drive 2 miles to a Y. Bear right (Pescadero Road) and drive a short distance to the park entrance on the right.
Reservations required at (415) 646-0702 up to three months in advance; $35 per adult, $17.50 for those under 18, $700 for groups of up to 20 reserving the entire inn. No website.
