SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The city of San Francisco is going to make it difficult to get to the Castro on Halloween night.
In an effort to discourage the annual crowds and potential violence, the 16 Street BART station will close at 8 p.m. Wednesday, and Muni's Church, Castro, Forest Hill and West Portal stations will shut down at 8:30 p.m., according to Police Chief Heather Fong.
Buses will run from Van Ness to West Portal instead, but no other buses will be rerouted as Muni expects the streets to remain open.
In addition, don't expect to find parking in the area. No parking will be allowed on Market between Castro and Noe, on Castro between Market and 19th Street, and on 18th between Hartford and Collingwood.
Many bars and restaurants have agreed to close early while some 600 police officers will be patrolling the streets. Police are hoping to avoid the violence that occurred last year when nine people were shot Halloween night in the Castro.
