MILL VALLEY, Calif. (KCBS) -- Rescue crews ran out of daylight before they could find a 25-year-old Mill Valley woman missing for two nights on the trails of Mount Tamalpais.
Veronica Ruiz’s family reported her missing around 10:00 p.m. Monday night after she did not return from a hike. She had last been seen at noon dressed in running clothes.
Authorities could not begin looking for her until day break, and the overnight rain made it less likely that searchers slogging over the muddy paths would easily pick up her trail.
Her sister, Maricris Ruiz, believes she is probably near one of the five main trails that lead from Mill Valley to the top of the mountain.
Authorities said one or two people each year get lost on the very dense terrain.
Ruiz, 5’5” and 120 pounds. Authorities are concerned that her clothing is not adequately protecting her from the elements.
