OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- The main suspect in a robbery and shooting last Thursday that seriously injured a 10-year-old boy in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood was charged Monday with four felony counts that could put him in prison for the rest of his life.
Jared Adams, 24, of Oakland was charged with willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder, robbery, evading a police officer, driving recklessly, and being an ex-felon in possession of a gun, according to Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Tom Rogers.
Police allege that Adams robbed a gas station at Piedmont and Pleasant Valley Road about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, and fired several shots at the station attendant who was calling 911. One of the bullets struck a boy who was taking piano lessons at the nearby Harmony Road Music School.
The boy survived, but may be paralyzed for the rest of his life.
Adams was eventually caught after leading police on a high speed chase, according to authorities.
The passenger of Adams' vehicle was identified as Maeve Clifford. She was arrested on robbery charges and assault with a deadly weapon.
