SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom unveiled his latest effort to make San Francisco even greener.
Newsom announced his goal Tuesday of phasing out the use of T-12 fluorescent lights by the end of the year and replacing them with energy efficient T-8 bulbs. Many businesses and even some homes use some 850,000 T-12 bulbs, he said.
Getting rid of the T-12s would be the equivalent of removing 3,000 cars off the road, the mayor said.
This focus on fluorescent bulbs is the latest part of a comprehensive plan, called "Building a Bright Future". The plan is designed to make San Francisco a clean, green city.
