SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has been using money from Muni's budget and other city departments to fund at least a half dozen jobs in his office, according to officials at the transit agency.
The cash-strapped, troubled transit system has complained to the Board of Supervisors, and Supervisor Jake McGoldrick Thursday asked the board's budget analyst to investigate.
According to Muni officials, Newsom has taken about $1 million from Muni to pay for seven positions on his staff, including a deputy press secretary, a city events coordinator, and members of the mayor's City Build team.
Supervisor Bevan Dufty said one transit related position might make sense, but not the ones the mayor has added.
Newsom spokesman Nathan Ballard said the mayor's actions are a long standing practice that is not out of the ordinary.
