BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS) -- Berkeley voters adopted Measure G in 2006. It’s a greenhouse gas emission mandate to cut carbon gas released by the city, and its residents, by 80 percent by the year 2050.
City Councilman Kriss Worthington expects to see a number of energy reducing options on the first draft of the new Berkeley Climate Action Plan.
”No matter how many great ideas people put forward, you can’t afford to do all of them, so we’re going to have to prioritize the things that are possible this year, and which ones may need to get delayed to future years,” said Worthington.
Berkeley residents have already made individual pledges to cut greenhouse gases by walking, biking and using mass transit more. Details of a new solar energy installation-financing plan were met with enthusiasm.
The new report will be released Monday morning at the Shorebird Park Nature Center at the Berkeley Marina. It’s a fitting spot, as the structure is made of hay, with a wind turbine on top
