SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco Budget Analyst Harvey Rose Wednesday released his much anticipated report on the spending habits of Mayor Newsom.
The report said Newsom is not accurately stating how much his office spends on salaries. It also found that the mayor used more than a million dollars earmarked for other city departments to pay his own staff, at a time when departments are being asked to cut spending. The city is facing a projected $233 million deficit.
Newsom himself released a draft of the report last week saying it was technically accurate, but that the facts were wildly overstated. He said he was just following a long-standing practice used by past mayors.
Supervisor Jake McGoldrick who requested the report said he would hold a public hearing on what he calls "truth in budgeting".
