SF Woman Helps Pakistanis Tell Their Stories

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)  -- President Musharraf has promised free and fair elections next week in Pakistan, but many people there don't believe it. Now, with the help of a San Francisco "citizen journalist" in Pakistan, they may be able to make their voices heard.

Amra Tareen is the Pakistani-American founder of the citizen journalism website AllVoices.com. She traveled from San Francisco to Peshawar, in her native country to cover the Parliamentary elections.

”It’s important to cover these elections, and I knew that I needed to show people in Pakistan how to do citizen reporting, because it’s a new phenomenon, and in the U.S. people do it all the time,” said Tareen.

All Voices will give citizen journalists small cameras and urge them to put the results on the website.
