SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The high price of gold right now has many running for the hills looking to stake a claim. This means business couldn't be better for Harigin McGregor, the owner of Gold Fever Prospecting.com, who says the 49ers only found 5 to 10 percent of the gold in the Golden State.
”You can find nuggets. California is renowned for having larger pieces. But primarily what you’re going to find at first is fine gold, or flour gold as they call it. That’s all worth money too. Don’t throw it out, or be frustrated or disgusted by it if that’s all you find. You’d be shocked to find out how little it takes to make a full ounce of gold,” said McGregor.
McGregor says prospecting for gold is an easy entry sport, but you'll need a few things, such as a couple of gold pans, a shovel, a five gallon bucket, and a sluice box, just like the kind used in the 1840's.
He says Goldmaps.com can give people an idea of where gold has been found in the past.
For those who do get lucky McGregor says one of the best places to sell that gold is on eBay.
