SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Hundreds of the world's top gymnasts -- including eight 2004 Olympians -- converged on San Jose Thursday for the Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships.
"This is definitely a world class event. It's probably the second or third largest gymnastics event in the world. These athletes are those that have competed at the world championships, previous Olympic games, we have Olympic medalists world championship medalists. Quite a broad representation of some of the best athletes in the world," said USA Gymnastics President, Steve Penny.
The gymnasts include Paul Hamm, the first American male gymnast to take gold in the all-around competition at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Competitions run from Friday through Sunday and will be held at the San Jose State Events Center and McHenry Convention Center.
