SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- San Francisco police arrested 46 students and employees of UC San Francisco Medical Center Thursday as they demanded better wages and benefits.
The protesters sat down in the middle of the street on the 500 block of Parnassus Avenue in front of the hospital's main campus about 4 p.m. They were demonstrating for wage increases and better benefits for all 20,000 employees of the UC system, everyone from medical technicians to service employees who are currently working without a contract.
No emergency services were affected as ambulances avoided the Parnassus entrance to the emergency room.
Muni's 6-Parnassus and 43-Masonic lines were rerouted because of the protest.
UCSF officials, meanwhile, said they hope to resolve the issues at the bargaining table.
