SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A freak accident claimed the life of a San Francisco woman who was crushed by a falling limb from a redwood tree at the Stern Grove Parking lot.
Kathleen Bolton, 50, had just put her dog in the back of her Subaru Outback when the branch crashed down onto her car around 11:30 a.m., witnesses said. She later died at the hospital.
Bolton's dog ran from the vehicle and managed to escape unharmed.
Fire officials were uncertain whether gusty weather was a factor in what caused the branch to break off an apparently healthy tree.
