Silicon Valley Job Fair Draws Hundreds of Applicants

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Hundreds of job seekers with resumes in hand attended a job fair in Santa Clara Friday, hoping for a fresh start on a new career.

Many of the applicants have completed training in green technology such as Valentino Garcia, who was hoping to find work maintaining solar panels.

Garcia may have reason to hope. The latest numbers show that Silicon Valley companies are hiring. In March, there were nearly 7,000 more jobs than the same period a year ago. On the other hand, unemployment was also up in March.

The people getting hired are the ones who learn the skills that are in demand, said Holly Hanson with JobTrain, a job training program in Menlo Park.
