SAN FRANCISCO,Ca. (KCBS) -- San Francisco Muni's safety record is under scrutiny once again as the system paid out more than $6.6 million in claims last year.
KCBS reporter Bob Melrose said the pay outs included lawsuits involving accidents and other mishaps on the system.
Daniel Ford, the head of Muni, is trying to change things. He noted that they paid out $1 million less in claims in 2006 compared to the year before. But training and new safety measures could bring that down even more.
"We added more positions in terms of the safety department so we can do better investigations. There is a great deal of work going in that direction," Ford said.
More than 1,200 claims were filed against Muni last year.
