SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- As skyrocketing supermarket prices have driven up calls to food-help lines, Bay Area food banks are making an urgent appeal for donations.
At the Alameda County Community Food Bank, Executive Director Suzan Bateson says more people are applying for assistance as food prices soar.
"It's a big deal, and our help-line referrals are going through the roof," said Bateson.
The most in demand food items are canned meats, fish, peanut butter, rice, pasta, low-sugar cereals and canned soups.
