SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - Some terminals at Mineta San Jose International Airport now provide free WiFi and tech support for air passengers with laptops.
SJC is the first airport in the Bay Area to offer air passengers free WiFi. The service was launched Friday morning, and it seems to be getting a welcome reception from most at the airport. "EBay, Ebay, check my e-mail, check my work e-mail, just basically touch base," described one woman of the sites she had already visited on her laptop at the airport. "It's Silicon Valley."
The goal of the service is to make San Jose the choice for Silicon Valley business air passengers. The WiFi is being paid for through online advertising and sponsorships. "The revenue we get from advertising and sponsors will pay for the actual operation and installation," explained airport spokesman David Vossbrink. "It has the potential for giving a little extra revenue over time."
