SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The union representing Muni’s 2,000 bus drivers and cable car operators walked out of contract talks this week, and no new negotiations are scheduled.
Muni management has pushed for givebacks in scheduling and discipline, citing the financial troubles facing the entire city and its own growing deficit.
The concessions are something Irwin Lum, the president of Transport Workers Union local 250, said members simply cannot afford in a lagging economy.
The union is prohibited from striking, but in previous labor disputes there have been both slowdowns and work-stoppages.
