SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Mayor Gavin Newsom's plan to shut down six miles of roadway along the waterfront for two Sundays is meeting resistance at city hall.
Supervisor Sean Elsbernd has introduced legislation that would demand a full economic impact report on closing the Embarcadero for two Sundays on Labor Day, August 31, and on September 14.
Newsom said closing off the busy street would allow people to bicycle, roller skate, dance and party in general, basically getting out of their cars and having fun.
But Elsbernd says two cruise ships are scheduled to dock those mornings, creating a logistical problem for people getting off with luggage and no way to get to a car or taxi. He says the plan was not vetted properly.
