OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) -- The Oakland City Council's Finance Committee meets Tuesday to address a projected $15 million budget deficit that could balloon to three times that amount.
A fiscal review has found former City Administrator Deborah Edgerly may have seriously under-estimated the shortfall, said City Councilwoman Jean Quan, chair of the Finance Committee.
Quan says she has always been wary of Edgerly's early projections that counted on property sales and transfer tax revenues to rise. She predicts the more accurate deficit numbers will mean layoffs and cuts in city services.
Edgerly was forced out of her job recently because of questions about whether she interfered in a police investigation involving her nephew.
