SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- Silicon Valley is now home to the largest crime lab in Northern California. At four stories, and 90,000 square feet, San Jose’s state of the art crime lab, which is located next to the courthouse on Hedding Street, is three times larger than the old facility.
”Right now, in almost every crime that we’ve got, the evidence turned over to the lab is DNA evidence because of the amount of information that you can find out about the crime,” said Bennie Del Ray, the lab’s director.
District Attorney Dolores Carr says the new crime lab will allow them to do a better job in reducing their case backlog.
”We do an excellent job, but there’s just no doubt about it, if we have a building that really matches our ability to work with forensic evidence, we’re going to be able to convict the guilty and free the innocent more quickly,” said Carr.
