The Mill Valley Film Festival is presenting a new documentary on the legendary session men known as "The Wrecking Crew", followed by a live performance at the Throckmorton Theater.
The group's name was coined by drummer Hal Blaine. They recorded with artists ranging from The Mamas and the Papas to The Byrds to Simon and Garfunkel, and can be heard on more than 150 Billboard Top Ten songs.
Insider knowledge: if you remember The Tijuana Brass, The Wrecking Crew basically was the sound (plus Herb Alpert, of course). The group was also the sound behind Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound".
