SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- BART riders who use a credit card-like device called the E-Z Rider card to pay their fares may soon be able to do the same thing when it comes to paying for parking at stations.
KCBS’ Bob Melrose Reports
There are 33,000 BART patrons who use the cards, which are hooked up to their credit cards, to speed up the process of boarding the BART trains. However, these customers are still forced to pay cash when parking at a station that requires payment to park.
A new proposal before the BART board would allow E-Z Rider users to pay for parking with that very same card.
”Under the current situation, if you park at a BART station, and you have to pay, you have to remember your stall number, and you have to either have a dollar, or a BART ticket to pay for your parking,” said BART spokesman Lynton Johnson. “That makes absolutely no sense because you already have the E-Z Rider card, which is supposed to eliminate the need for cash or a BART ticket.”
There weren’t enough members present to pass the proposal at BART’s last meeting, but it is expected to pass in the near future.
