Remorseful Teenager Returns Dog Stolen from SF-SPCA

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS)  -- The rat terrier dog stolen from the San Francisco SPCA on Sunday, was returned unharmed Monday.

A spokesperson for the shelter said around 8 a.m. Monday the animal was returned.

"A teenager -- probably around 16 years old -- returned him to a volunteer dog walker," said Kiska Icard, the San Francisco SPCA's management director. "(The dog walker) said he was in tears and was very remorseful, that he said he really wanted a dog and that it wasn't the right thing (Tai) was taken, but that he took really good care of him."

As reported on KCBS Monday, the dog was stolen from the Mission District shelter Sunday afternoon after four men in their early 20s walked into SPCA and then left. Two of the men sat in a gray or silver car in the parking lot while the other two returned through a side entrance for employees and grabbed the first dog they saw -- Tai.

On Monday, the SPCA offered a $1,000 reward for Tai's safe return, and went to the press in hopes of spreading the word.
