SAN JOSE (KCBS) -- One of the nation’s largest charities is offering a to match dollar-for-dollar donations up to $1 million to help non-profits that provide food and shelter to families in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
KCBS' Matt Bigler reports
The Silicon Valley Community Foundation launched its “Strengthen the Safety Net” campaign at a time when a slow economy has discouraged many from giving, leaving charities with dramatically fewer resources to help those hit hardest by the economic crisis.
The challenge comes on top of the foundation's decision in September to allocate another $1 million for anti-poverty efforts.
