SF Restaurant Association Considers One-Day Shutdown
|
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The Golden Gate Restaurant Association is considering closing all restaurants for a full day to call attention to the rising cost of doing business in San Francisco.
With new healthcare and sick leave requirements, in addition to the latest hike in minimum wage, some restaurant owners say the city’s mandates will eventually force them into opening up shop elsewhere.
The Golden Gate Restaurant Association represents about 800 businesses in San Francisco. Executive Director Kevin Westlye hinted that if the shutdown idea is carried out, it won’t be on a convenient day.
“I think if we really wanted to make a statement, we’d close on the busiest convention day of the year,” he said.
