SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Immigration officials, along with federal, state and local authorities raided more than dozen locations in San Francisco, South San Francisco and Richmond Wednesday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation targeting alleged members of the notorious street gang MS-13.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Virginia Kice says ICE agents, along with federal, state and local authorities, were executing federal search and arrest warrants targeting individuals believed to be linked to gang activity.
KCBS’ Melissa Culross reports
Wednesday's raids were not administrative immigration enforcement raids but part of a criminal investigation.
The MS-13 street gang, also known as Mara Salvatrucha, started in Southern California and has roots in El Salvador. Authorities say they have linked the San Francisco arm of the group to several slayings in the City, including the shooting deaths of Tony Bologna and his two sons in the Excelsior District this summer.
Northern California U-S Attorney Joe Russionello had no comment Wednesday afternoon, but a spokesman says more details on the case will be made available at a news conference late Thursday morning.
