San Francisco (KCBS) - On November Fourth, California voters will decide whether to fund a high speed rail system to connect the Bay Area to Southern California.
Proposition 1A would fund the first phase of a new high speed railway connecting San Francisco and Los Angeles, and the main concerns for the opposition are the estimates.
“The high speed rail people say that 117 million people will ride the train per year. That means every man, woman, and child would ride the train 3 and a half times a year, that is absurd,” voices opponent Mike Brady.
KCBS' Patti Reising reports
Quentin Kopp, chair of California’s High Speed Rail Authority tells KCBS there should between 60 million to 105 million rides a year and that a one-way ticket between San Francisco and Los Angeles would cost $55.
“That is consistent with ticket prices in other countries at the time those systems began operation,” claims Kopp.
