SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, and coinciding with Critical Mass, San Francisco officials are keeping their fingers crossed for a quiet night. The rainy weather might help, if it causes some people to stay home.
KCBS Holly Quan Reports
This year, officials are hoping that the Castro District doesn’t play as big a role as it did in the past. After some violent incidents the city shut down the festivities in 2007. Bars were closed, and police were stationed on the street. But after some shopkeepers complained, the area will again open its bars and restaurants, in hopes of a relatively quiet night.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom Discusses Halloween
Instead, officials, including San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, say they hope revelers will congregate near AT&T Park, where the city has planned a free gathering.
Meanwhile, Halloween revelers in San Francisco and the East Bay can get a free cab ride home tonight courtesy of an Alameda law firm.
The Berg Injury Lawyers Firm in Alameda are picking up the tab, if partiers can’t get themselves home safely between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
KCBS’ Bob Melrose Reports
”If you’ve been out having a good time at Halloween, if it’s a little bit too much of a good time and it’s not safe for you to drive, we’ll pay for you to take a cab home,” said William Berg.
To request a free ride, call Veteran’s Cab in the East Bay at (800) 281-4488. Or in San Francisco call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141. You can tell the company that the Berg law firm is paying for the ride.
This is, of course, for a ride home, not to another bar or party.
