VALLEJO, Calif. (KCBS) -- A sexual assault involving three students near Vallejo Middle School three weeks ago did not warrant all parents in the district being notified, according to a spokesman.
Two boys were arrested on felony sexual assault charges immediately after coercing a girl to perform oral sex on one of them at a tennis court near Vallejo Middle School.
KCBS' Bob Melrose reports
“It was an event that went awry amongst kids that knew each other. It was not a random act,” said district spokesman Jason Hodge.
The boys were suspended from the district, and the school held some classroom workshops on sexual harassment and its consequences. Hodge admitted not all parents were satisfied with how the district handled the incident, but stood by the decision to protect the girl’s privacy.
“We wanted to be sensitive to the victim. She did not need unwanted media attention, as is what’s happening now,” he told KCBS reporter Bob Melrose. “So we’re comfortable with the way we addressed the situation”
The two boys are facing several felony charges.
The sexual assault appears to be an isolated incident.
