SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Airports around the country will have more designated family lanes at their security checkpoints during the holiday travel season.
On Thursday, the Transportation Security Administration started adding more lines for so-called novice flyers unaccustomed to airport security procedures, or who have a lot of luggage and kids in tow.
KCBS' Holly Quan reports
Those with medically necessary liquids over three ounces such as insulin, cough syrup or contact lens solution are also allowed to use the lines, designated with a large green dot.
Passengers at San Francisco International tell KCBS reporter Holly Quan it can take some families up to 10 minutes get prepped for screening, taking off shoes and jackets and loading luggage onto the belt to be scanned.
The family lines will be at every airport in the nation, but may not be at every security checkpoint.
