SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KCBS) -- A mother gave birth to a baby girl at the Bay Area Rapid Transit station in San Leandro Friday morning, a BART spokesman said.
KCBS’ George Harris Reports
The 21-year-old mother was with her 2-year-old child at around 7 a.m. when she started going into labor at the top of the escalator, BART spokesman Linton Johnson said.
A station agent and a police officer helped her until paramedics arrived and delivered the baby, Johnson said.
After she gave birth, the family was taken to Eden Medical Center where, according to Johnson, they seemed to be in good health.
Johnson wasn't there for the birth, but he said, "they were trying to keep it as private as one can at a busy BART station."
