San Jose Mayor Releases City Stimulus Plan

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- You've heard about stimulus plans at the federal level, but now San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed has a stimulus plan of his own. Reed is releasing a directive that lays out a wide-ranging stimulus plan using redevelopment agency monies.
Listen  KCBS’ Betsy Gebhart ReportsBut there are so many uncertainties though that Reed believes it would be wise to delay longer-term plans to focus on projects that could be ready to launch in the next several months.

”One of the projects that is ready to go is a convention center project that we’ve done quite a bit of planning on,” said Reed. “It’s a big project, but we have a lot of uncertainty about the financing. So it’s certainly on the list of important projects, but we have to make sure we have enough money to do the project before we can start.”

He also wants to attract and retain businesses in San Jose. Reed points to a half-dozen green and clean technology companies looking for two million square feet of office space to grow some 5,000 jobs. Reed wants to take whatever measures necessary to make sure that those jobs happen here.
