SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Mother Nature is putting on quite a show this holiday season, with several dazzling sights in the skies above our heads.

For the past few nights there has been a special view in the skies southwest of the Bay Area. Ben Buress, staff astronomer at the Chabot Space and Science Center in Oakland, says what many think are the lights on an aircraft is actually Venus and Jupiter in conjunction.
"Tonight they will be about at their closest, about two degrees apart. And adding to the show, the thin crescent moon will be right next to them as well," said Buress.
If you haven't seen them yet, look to the southwest at dusk. At the end of the month, Mercury joins Jupiter in the southwestern sky for yet another conjunction. And on the 12th of this month, the full moon will be at its closest to earth since 1993, although Buress says that won't be as dramatic at tonight's conjunction of Venus and Jupiter.
