Inspired by the true life tale of Clifford Irving, the writer who almost pulled off one of the most audacious media scams ever (when his "autobiography" of Howard Hughes was published) this movie really gets it right. Richard Gere stars as the ambitious Irving, given fine support by Marcia Gay Harden and Alfred Molina. Molina is particularly effective as the pathetic friend trying to be partners with the scheming Irving. Gere holds it all together in a believable, strong performance. Directed with taut, exciting pacing by Lasse Hallstrom.
