San Jose BART Tax Could be 3 Years Away

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS)  -- Despite a court victory, it could be as long as three years before a tax is collected to bring BART to San Jose.
Listen  KCBS’ Bob Melrose Reports

On Tuesday, a judge ruled that no recount of Measure B is required, but said that the parties that tried to stop the one-eighth cent sales tax measure could ask for a full-blown hearing. However, the Santa Clara County tax can’t be collected until the federal government kicks in $750 million for the BART extension, which could take up to three years.

David Schoenbrun of the group TransDef says that hopefully, another solution will materialize before that happens.

”We think Silicon Valley deserves better public transit than BART,” said Schoenbrun.

Measure B passed by about 700 votes.
