VALLEJO, Calif. (KCBS) -- Two lucky people in California’s 7th Congressional District have won tickets to the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama. They were chosen at random through a computer lottery sponsored by Congressman George Miller.
The winners are UC Davis student Jeff Baccus of Vallejo and Deborah McIntyre of Richmond. Congressman Miller himself made the call to Baccus this morning to tell him that he had won the lottery, and will be getting two tickets to the inauguration on January 20th.
McIntyre wasn’t at home, so the congressman left a message on her answering machine to tell her to call his office to make all of the arrangements. She’ll have to pick up the tickets in Washington D.C. because of security reasons.

Congressman Miller said that he had over 1,300 entries for the tickets.
Meanwhile, the inauguration happens the day after Martin Luther King Day... and Washington D.C. officials are bracing for what they expect to be four days of heady celebration.
Designs were unveiled today for a new monument to the slain civil rights leader.
The Rev. Amos Brown, a minister of San Francisco's Third Baptist Church, was one of the first to see plans for the one acre site at the base of the Potomac River.

"These two huge mountainous stones will be there, with the words inscribed, 'out of a mountain of despair we can hew a stone of hope,'" said Brown.
The fulfillment of civil rights will permeate the inauguration, with the theme "A New Birth of Freedom" taken from the Gettysburg address.
The inaugural ceremony comes just days before the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth.
