SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- Four city supervisors have been termed out of office and are heading for the exits of San Francisco City Hall, clearing the way for new faces who will likely carry the same progressive policies but bring in a whole new set of personalities.
Some have already left, and some are still clearing out their offices before their term officially ends on January 8.
KCBS’ Barbara Taylor reports
Board President Aaron Peskin, who had a stunning performance of approving 205 ordinances during his two terms in office, says he is sad to go but is also looking forward to returning to private life.
“It’s bittersweet. I’ll be able to go back to having a real life, traveling and working at the non-profit that I want to return to and seeing my family… and there will be aspects of the job that I’ll miss,” said Peskin.
Peskin will retain some clout as head of the county democratic central committee.
District 9’s beloved Tom Ammiano has already moved to Sacramento where he has been promoted to the State Assembly. His San Francisco Supervisor legacy includes news laws in health access, paid sick leave and creating city identification cards.
Gerardo Sandoval, former supervisor of District 11 who sponsored the city’s consular identification ordinance, is now working as a Judge-elect of the Superior Court in California and for the County of San Francisco.
Jake McGoldrick, who chaired the Budget and Finance Committee and the San Francisco Country Transportation Authority, says he is considering returning to teaching or retirement.
The city’s four new supervisors have the big shoes of their predecessors left behind to fill, but say they are ready to undertake the task.
San Francisco’s new supervisors:
- Eric Mar—District 1
- David Chui—District 3
- David Campos—District 9
- John Avalos—District 11
