SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The Reverend Jesse Jackson hosted a dialogue in San Francisco today, aimed at ridding America's airwaves of racial and hateful speech in the wake of the Don Imus firing.
Jackson spoke at Third Baptist Church, saying he hoped the fall of the popular radio host will give rise to an era of more civil behavior in the media.
"Public airwaves must not be used as conduits to incite fear, hatred and violence," said Jackson.
Jackson also urged rappers not to forsake decency for dollars, and not to perpetuate stereotypes that began long before they started demeaning women. "Rap artists didn't start it, but they oughta stop it," he said.
